Mark A. Wineinger, MD (1953-2004) founded the Jireh Foundation (1999) to anonymously assist a number of his patients with unmet financial needs. His foundation provided him with considerable personal strength for a bravely fought, five year battle with brain cancer. Mark's passion for his Jireh Foundation was known to very few people. However, his passion for golf was very well known. This latter love of his had its roots as a youngster strolling early morning, dew-laden golf courses with his family.

Now, Mark's family & friends sponsor an annual golf tournament to benefit Jireh. Through this continuation of Mark's two passions, his spirit lives on. Today, the Jireh Foundation is a Minnesota based, non-profit corporation with two goals. First are plans and actions to raise funds via donations and an annual golf tournament, the Mark Wineinger Memorial (MWM). Secondly, Jireh distributes these funds to PM&R patients of all ages at the UC Davis Medical Center who continue to battle spinal cord injuries, neuromuscular diseases, amputations, burns and other chronic diseases. The Jireh Foundation endeavors to recognize these patient needs with the assistance of the Medical Center staff. The foundation board will respond, as best able, to those financial requests and needs.

Jireh has provided financial assistance to the Rehab floor at the UCD Medical Center. A combination Dining/Recreation room has been developed for the benefit of the department and its patients. The room was dedicated in Mark's name on 8/26/05. This memorial plaque allows a reflection on Mark's love for both the medical profession and friends.

The 2009 MWM Tournament is scheduled at WildHorse for October 3rd. The Awards Luncheon will be located at WildHorse, too.
